Panorama económico e industrial

Iceland is a small, highly developed Nordic island economy with a nominal GDP of approximately $33.5 billion and one of the world's highest GDP per capita figures. The economy is built on fishing and fish processing, tourism, renewable energy (geothermal and hydroelectric), aluminium smelting, and a growing technology and data-centre sector. Tourism recovered strongly after the COVID-19 disruption and now accounts for a significant share of export earnings. Iceland is a member of the European Economic Area (EEA) and the Schengen Area but does not use the euro, retaining the Icelandic króna. Inflation has remained persistently above the central bank's 2.5% target, driven largely by housing costs, prompting a series of interest-rate cuts beginning in late 2024 as conditions gradually ease.

Acceso a brókers locales

Icelandic equities listed on Nasdaq Iceland are denominated in Icelandic króna (ISK). International retail investors typically access the market via local Icelandic brokers (e.g., Arion Bank Securities, Íslandsbanki Markets, Landsbankinn) or through European broker platforms with Nordic market access. Direct foreign ownership of Icelandic equities is generally permitted. Currency conversion from USD/EUR to ISK is required, and ISK is not freely convertible internationally in all circumstances. Marel hf. was previously dual-listed on Euronext Amsterdam before its acquisition by JBT Corporation completed in 2024, reducing the number of dual-listed Icelandic ADR/cross-listing options.
