Oman is an upper-middle-income economy on the southeastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula, with nominal GDP of approximately $108 billion in 2025. The economy remains anchored by hydrocarbons, which account for close to half of GDP and over 80% of government revenues, though the non-oil sector represented 73% of GDP at constant prices in 2024 as Vision 2040 diversification efforts take hold. Real GDP growth is estimated at 2.6% for 2025, supported by recovering hydrocarbon output as OPEC+ quotas eased and robust expansion in construction, manufacturing, logistics, and services. The Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX), formerly the Muscat Securities Market, has seen its total market capitalisation roughly double since 2021, reaching approximately $79 billion by end-2025 and approaching $100 billion by April 2026, underpinned by several large IPOs including Asyad Shipping and OQ Exploration and Production. The Omani rial maintains a fixed peg to the US dollar at approximately OMR 1 = USD 2.6008, providing exchange-rate stability for foreign investors.

Oman's MSX is accessible to international investors through licensed local brokers regulated by the Capital Market Authority (CMA) of Oman. EFG Hermes, Ubhar Capital, and Al Maisarah Brokerage are among the established intermediaries with English-language platforms. International investors may also gain indirect exposure through frontier-market-focused global custodian relationships. The OMR is pegged to the USD at a fixed rate of approximately 0.3845 OMR per USD (1 OMR = 2.6008 USD), which eliminates currency risk for USD-based investors. Settlement is T+2. No US-listed single-country Oman ETF currently exists; the iShares FM and Invesco FRN funds provide partial frontier-market exposure.

Zugang für ausländische Investoren

Foreign nationals may invest in MSX-listed equities through authorised brokerage firms registered with the Capital Market Authority (CMA). A foreign investor must obtain an investment licence from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MOCIIP) and register with the CMA prior to trading. The general foreign ownership ceiling is 70% of non-banking listed companies and 49% of listed banks; individual company articles may specify lower limits. Ownership of 10% or more in any listed company triggers mandatory disclosure; Central Bank approval is required before crossing 10% ownership in any bank. There are no restrictions on capital repatriation or profit remittance for foreign investors. Foreigners may purchase property only within designated Integrated Tourism Complexes (ITCs) unless they hold a Golden Residency permit, which allows broader real estate ownership subject to limits.
