PT Hanjaya Mandala Sampoerna Tbk is Indonesia's largest cigarette manufacturer by volume, producing both machine-made and hand-rolled kretek (clove-blend) cigarettes under the Sampoerna A, Dji Sam Soe, and Marlboro (under licence) brands. The company is majority-owned by Philip Morris International, which acquired its controlling stake in 2005. HMSP is exposed to Indonesia's progressively tightened tobacco excise tax regime.
